The ED Design Torq is an autonomous supercar concept by ED Design.
The autonomous ED Design Torq was first unveiled to the public at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. With no windows and no mirror, the ED Design Torq is a design study but also a prototype for a Self-Driving Race Car (SDRC) that ED Design hopes to release in the late 2010s. As it is autonomous, the car has no steering wheel, and the driver will only be able to see by a 360° wraparound monitor projecting images in the car's interior. The cars are also open-source, meaning they will be used as testbeds for technologies such as autonomy, and these tests will not be internalized.
The Torq is powered by four electric motors producing a total of 500 hp (373 kW), and producing 1328 ft·lb (1800 N·m) of torque. The Torq is capable of a top speed restricted to 155 mph (250 km/h).
ED Design claims that they want the Torq to do a four-minute lap at Le Mans Circuit de la Sarthe.
The ED Design Torq was added in the Lunar New Year Update as the second new Research & Development car added in 2016, after the Peugeot SR1. The Torq is a high-end Class C car, with a starting rank of 1089 (shared with the Honda Integra Type-R), a MAX rank of 1379, and a MAX+PRO rank of 1562. The Torq gains +64 from Tuning Kits. The Torq mainly rivals the Toyota Supra RZ (Mark IV), AC 378 GT Z, and McLaren M14A.
The ED Design Torq is a nitro/acceleration-focused car, with a uniquely high nitro stat that would later be used by the Honda Integra Type-R and Porsche 959.
The ED Design Torq remains the fastest-accelerating Class C car in the game, with a faster rate of acceleration than the likes of the Mazda RX8 and Lamborghini Miura. The Torq is also very nitro-efficient, with 6/9/12, allowing the Torq to run on nitro for longer periods of time than most cars. The Torq, on the other hand, has a very low top speed for its class due to being heavily focused on nitro. The Torq also suffers the problem of having a low speed-to-rank ratio, capable of only 254.7 mph (410.1 km/h) at MAX+PRO (C1562).
Even while weighing 2205 lb (1000 kg), the Torq suffers the problem of poor handling, most likely due to its focus on nitro and its wheelbase. This means that the Torq has a shallow steering capacity, although the Torq has a relatively sharp drifting radius, just like with the Chrysler ME412. In tracks like Sector 8 and Venice, the Torq's superb drifting also comes as a double-edged sword due to its low top speed, as other cars with similar total speed can overtake it while it's drifting, much like the Peugeot SR1.
The Torq is competent for Multiplayer if tuned properly. As it has no chance of winning against its competition at stock, the relative difficulty of the R&D means that the vast majority of owners will have the car upgraded to a point where it will face stiffer competition such as BMW 3.0 CSL Hommages and Aston Martin Vulcans, but even then, the Torq is still a good choice for MP due to its fast acceleration and very high nitro stat. In terms of multiplayer upgrade setups, upgrading the nitro is highly recommended.
A useful multiplayer upgrade setup for this car is 0005 0515, which gives a total speed of 228.4 mph/367.8 km/h at rank C1176. While inferior to the likes of the BMW M2, this upgrade setup still enables the Torq to outclass most other cars with upgrade setups at a similar rank.
Another effective tune for the Torq, 0005 3535, results in a total speed of 376.1 km/h at a rank of C1235, allowing it to rival the Shelby Cobra 427's B1234 tune (0500 5050) on short and technical tracks, given by it's extreme acceleration and above-average handling and drifting despite being 23 km/h slower.
At the time of its release, the ED Design Torq became the best widely-available car for Events due to the Toyota Supra RZ (Mark IV) requiring 32 i6 Engines for its Pro Kits. As of the Elite Cars Update, the Torq's dominance in Events is virtually gone due to the addition of higher-ranked cars like the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Renault Alpine Celebration, and Sbarro Sparta. Even then, the Torq is still useful for Torq-only events.
With a suitable Season 9 race for farming Credits, this may be the Torq's only good use left aside from its Multiplayer competitiveness.
The ED Design Torq has a buying price of 4,000. As of the Car Blueprints Update, the Torq can be crafted upon collecting all 14 ED Design Torq BP cards. The Torq's MAX upgrades are priced at 1,182,800 or 6,495, making it the first car to have Tokens as an alternative upgrading method.
The ED Design Torq was released on February 4, 2016 with a 10 day Research & Development event. On September 29, 2016 the R&D event was held again. However, technical difficulties rendered Android users unable to play the R&D from the second day onward. The R&D has not appeared again since.
From November 11, 2016 the car would be made available on a 4 day offer at the aforementioned Tokens price.
The car was made available again from February 24, 2017 for 4 days at the aforementioned Tokens price.
The car was made available in the ED Design Torq Multiplayer Cup on July 24, 2017. The cup lasted 5 days, with the top 100 players receiving the car.
Strangely, by starting the revived R&D of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe Touring Car 2014, some players received the rewards for Test .050 of the Torq's R&D, including the car itself. This was fixed with the Torq being rescinded with a lack of compensation if any currency or Pro Kit cards was spent on the car.
Research & Development Edit

The ED Design Torq's Research & Development event was held on February 4, 2016, as the fourth R&D event in the game. It has a total of 50 Tests spanning 4 Labs that must be completed in 10 days once the event is started. When released, it had a unique Chinese New Year theme.
In the Rio de Janeiro Update, the Torq's R&D event was revived on September 29, 2016, as the 14th R&D event in the game, following the Aston Martin One-77's Enduro Double Down event, albeit without the unique Chinese New Year theme.
