Decals, also known as Visual Customizations, are visual customization items that can be applied to cars in the Asphalt series. Note that decals do not affect a car's performance characteristics, only visual appearance.

Asphalt 9: Legends Asphalt 9: Legends[]

Decals were first introduced as a Special Event reward for the featured car with non-event specific designs being added in the Tune It Up Update. Decals can be unlocked as an Event or Career reward. All Grand Prix cars feature three special decals (differing only in numbers, 01 to 03) awarded for finishing top three in the event (depending on player's tier).

The following cars currently have decals as of the Festive Season Update:

Asphalt Street Storm Racing Asphalt Street Storm Racing[]

Decals in Asphalt Street Storm Racing are treated as items that can be bought with Cash Cash or obtained from Gift Boxes. Decals from Gift Boxes are stored in the player's inventory and can be sold for Cash.

Unlike in Asphalt 8: Airborne, customization is more similar to real life: Changing a decal always costs Cash. Also, once a decal from Gift Boxes is applied, it disappears from the inventory and must be acquired again if another decal has been applied afterwards or if the player wants to use it for another vehicle.

Overview[]

Decals are divided into specific, animated and generic.

  • Specific decals are only available for a specific vehicle and can only be obtained from Gift Boxes. One rare exception is the Race I Race I decal for the BMW M4 GTS which can also be bought for Cash Cash.
  • Animated decals are internally marked as generic but can only be equipped for very few cars, namely the Porsche 918 Spyder and W Motors Fenyr SuperSport. Fire Fire and Paint Paint are permanently offered; others were only available from Gift Boxes during special events and updates and cannot be obtained any more, except for Pink Slips.
  • All other decals are generic, permanently offered and can be applied to almost every vehicle (except, for example, the Alpine Celebration Concept which cannot be customized at all). Prices vary by decal, but are the same for all vehicles.

Due to the great variety of available decals, one specific decal is relatively hard to obtain.

While the statistical drop rate of decals in general is 12.81 % (weighted average based on 5,799 items from the 3 most common boxes), specific decals usually have an average drop rate of less than 1 %.

When displaying the icon for a decal in the customization section, the game takes into account the current color of the selected vehicle. This may result in some details not being shown appropriately, like for the Racing I Racing I decal in the example to the right where the decal's blue areas merge with the car's blue color.

All examples in the following table are shown on a BMW M2 Coupé in default blue.

Decals in Asphalt Xtreme are the only way to customize a vehicle. Most decals can be unlocked by completing certain Mastery challenges; some others can only be obtained as reward from Limited-Time Events.

Introduced in the Decals Update in March 2015, decals may have to be purchased with in-game currency, although they are often available as prizes in Time-Limited Events. A number of them are also obtainable via Mastery Rewards. The value of a decal depends largely on the value of the car it is associated with, as well as its attractiveness. Decals range from simple stripes to more complex and/or attractive designs. Decals can cost either credits or tokens.

Decals start at Credits 6,000 and can reach as high as Credits 1,200,000. They also can cost Tokens, ranging from Tokens 40 to Tokens 6,000. The Koenigsegg One:1 and Savage Rivale GTR have decals by default; in this case, both cars actually have custom textures that were once selectable colors in the San Diego Harbor Update and Winter Update, albeit with each one marked as an "Unofficial color".

Since the Elite Cars Update, there are two Decal Packs that can be purchased as an IAP. One pack, costing US$29.99 and titled Top Contender Decal Pack (awards 3,000 VIP Points), grants decals from the most popular cars between the Decals Update and Santa's Gift Update, ranging from the Ferrari 330 P4 to the TRION NEMESIS. Another pack, costing US$74.99 and titled Garage Kingpin Decal Pack (awards 7,500 VIP Points), grants a huge selection of decals from almost all cars in the game all the way up to the Alfa Romeo 4C from the Lunar New Year Update. It is worth noting that this decal pack will actually give the player some decals that are normally not purchasable under normal circumstances.

Since the Rio de Janeiro Update, decals are awarded as Daily Login Bonus rewards by leveling up in the VIP System. VIP Level 2 users start receiving exclusive decals as Daily Bonus rewards, while VIP Level 9 users also start receiving the more exclusive Premium Decals as Daily Bonus rewards. The decals awarded depend on the player's VIP Level; for instance, a VIP Level 4 user may receive a decal for the Renault CLIO R.S. 200 EDC as their final Daily Bonus decal reward for the month, while a VIP Level 7 user may instead receive a decal for the Aston Martin V12 Zagato as their final Daily Bonus decal reward for the month. The VIP System may also give players special decals that are unlockable only through Events and/or Multiplayer League Seasons (like the one for the Aston Martin V12 Zagato pictured above). If the player already has the decal, the game will instead reward the player with credits as compensation.

Since the Multiplayer League Update, decals are awarded as Multiplayer League rewards for earning and saving points. Up to 8 decals can be earned for each Multiplayer League Season.

Decals that cost either tokens or are Event-exclusive decals are called "Premium Decals". However, not all token-purchasable decals can be classified as "Premium Decals".

If the player attempts to buy a decal for a car they currently do not own, the game will pull up a confirmation box saying that the player doesn't own that car yet and asking if they want to buy that decal anyway.

As of January 2023, there has been a trend wherein Gameloft sells decals alongside cars in the Offers section (which has replaced the Store). Each time that Gameloft has done this, the decal has become unavailable for purchase (having originally been purchasable for either Credits Credits or Tokens Tokens, including Mastery decals that were converted to Tokens previously). An example of this is the "Halloween" decal for the Pagani Zonda R; originally just a Credits decal, it is now unavailable for purchase due to being bundled together with the car.

As of January 2023, decals have suffered two major bugs in recent times. From September 2021 to November 2021, all of the TLE/GKDP decals in the game disappeared from the equipping menu (but could still be seen on cars if they had been equipped before the bug occurred); the issue was fixed. From August 2022 to January 2023, approximately forty decals had texture issues wherein certain image files were corrupted and replaced by a red "X" marker; the issue was also fixed. An example of a corrupted decal was the "#95 Thunder" decal for the Dodge Dart GT; the "skull racer" drawing on the hood was corrupted. The Zonda R's aforementioned "Halloween" decal was also partially corrupted; some lightning bolts on the sides were replaced with X's.

Beginning with the 2021 Halloween Patch (part of the Eighth Anniversary Update), Gameloft has put a stronger emphasis on creating new decals for cars after several years of an almost complete hiatus. The last car to receive normal purchasable decals (before 2021) was the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, in the Car Blueprints Update (March 2017), which received three Tokens decal upon its debut (one of which was subsequently removed from purchase). Subsequently, the Arash AF10 received two TLE-exclusive, United States-exclusive decals in June 2017 ("Simple Mobile") and June 2018 ( "Straight Talk") respectively. Finally, the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 received the "15th Anniversary" decal in May 2020. Note: This means that absolutely zero decals were added to the game in the year of 2019. Certain cars received "default decals" during these years, such as the Nissan 370Z Special Edition (Japanese mask and waves) and the TVR Sagaris Special Edition (2019 LNY Golden Pig).

  • The Sian's 15th Anniversary decal was available for only the second time in history in February 2023, during a week-long TLE (namely "The Gaming Site CUP") that was only available to players from India. Achieving the decal itself was relatively easy since it was one of the intermediate rewards rather than the top reward.

Ever since the 2021 Halloween Patch, Gameloft has been creating new decals at a reasonable pace, albeit significantly fewer than what was added in the early years of the game. The new decals have a distinctive new style (due to new developers and management). In general, they tend to be less "cartoony" than the early decals. The new decals are listed below:

  1. 2021 Halloween Patch = Three types of new Halloween-themed decals, officially named "Kind Pumpkin", "Evil Pumpkin", and "Street Style" (as seen in the Offers section). The Pininfarina Battista and Pagani Huayra BC each received all three decals, whereas the Arash AF10 received two of them (minus Street Style); all eight decals were made permanently purchasable for Tokens. The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ and Bugatti La Voiture Noire each received at least one of the Halloween decals (up to three of them), but the decals for these two cars were not obtainable by any means at the time. In Halloween 2022, the decal "Street Style" for the La Voiture Noire was obtainable for the first time (limited time); nonetheless, it is still extremely rare since it was only sold in a Bundle together with the car itself, and not separately.
    • Note: The decal/s for the Chiron SS300+ has/have been equipped by certain YouTubers (as can be seen in certain videos) from October 2021 up until the time of writing, January 2023. However, according to the information available to Asphalt Wiki editors, these decals have never been obtainable via any means during this period. Hence, anyone who has equipped these decals during this period has almost certainly used exploits/hacks/cheats to acquire them, unless they were gifted the decals directly by Gameloft for whatever reason. Based on the YouTubers who hacked the game to acquire these decals, it can be seen that the Chiron SS300+ possesses the "Evil Pumpkin" decal.
  2. 2022 Lunar New Year Lamborghini decals = In January 2022, four new decals for three Lamborghini cars were added. This included two decals for the Lamborghini Centenario (both consisting of coloured lines), a "Winter" decal for the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, and a "Winter" decal for the Lamborghini Aventador SV. The four decals were originally available to everyone for free, but Gameloft clarified that this was a bug, and the decals were promptly removed. Subsequently, the Sian and Aventador SV decals were made available in the RAESR Tachyon Speed Festival (February 2022) as premium rewards. In December 2022, they were sold in the Offers section for a limited time (separately or together with the car). As of January 2023, the Centenario's two decals have not been obtainable by any means.
  3. Neon Season Update "Vaporwave" decals = In June 2022, a collection of new Vaporwave-themed decals (one per car) was added. The W Motors Fenyr SuperSport's Vaporwave decal was available from the Neon Season premium rewards. The Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary's Vaporwave decal was available from the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 Festival premium rewards. Meanwhile, Vaporwave decals for the Pininfarina Battista, TRION NEMESIS, Pagani Huayra BC, Acura NSX 2005, and BMW M1 were available from Time-Limited Events. The Battista's and NEMESIS's Vaporwave decals were also sold in Bundles together with the cars (not separately). The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ received one Vaporwave decal, whereas the Bugatti Bolide received three different variants of the Vaporwave decal, but these four decals have never been obtainable via any legitimate means.
    • Note: Again, certain YouTubers have been seen equipping these decals in their videos. Again, according to the knowledge of the Asphalt Wiki, anyone who has been equipping these decals during this period has acquired them by exploits/hacks/cheats, unless they were gifted the decals directly by Gameloft for whatever reason.
  4. Golden Season Update "Golden Season" decals = In November 2022, a collection of new "Golden Season" decals (one per car) was added. The Koenigsegg Jesko's Golden Season decal was available from the Golden Season premium rewards. Meanwhile, the Golden Season decals for the Koenigsegg Regera, Pagani Huayra R, and Ford GT 2017 were originally only sold in Bundles together with the cars (not separately). However, subsequently, they (Regera, Huayra R, and Ford GT only) were also sold for Tokens (discounted at 500tk from a standard price of 700tk) for a limited time, before being removed from sale again. The Porsche 718 Boxster S also received a Golden Season decal, although the first time that it was ever sold was in January 2023, during the Hot Winter Season Update; it was sold in an Offer separately or in a Bundle together with the car.
  5. Porsche Design decals = Two decals were added sometime in late-2022 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Porsche Design. These were made available from TLEs for the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and the Porsche 911 GT1 Evolution. Subsequently, the Taycan's decal was also sold in an Offer separately or in a Bundle together with the car in January 2023.
  6. Other special decals = Various other special decals have been released, including a Festival-exclusive decal for the Team Fordzilla P1, a Festival-exclusive decal for the W Motors Lykan HyperSport Halloween Edition, a "blue stripes camo" decal for the Pininfarina Battista (sold in an Offer separately or together with the car during the Golden Season Update in November 2022, and also sold discounted for 500tk for a limited period during that update), a TLE-exclusive Tushek TS 900 Racer Pro "#12" community-created decal (which was also sold in a Bundle together with the car, and not separately), and a Treasure Rush-exclusive decal for the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut.
    • Note: The Jesko Absolut's decal is extremely rare. The only way to obtain it (via legitimate means) was to buy all of the necessary Festival Offers (around US $150) and also to win the Super Round at the same time. There was a 173 in 1,000,000 chance of winning the Super Round, so even most of the players who spent over a hundred dollars on this event still had a very low chance of obtaining the decal alongside the car. YouTuber Cars On! is, at this point in time, the only person who is known to have officially been gifted this decal by Gameloft. Other players have been seen equipping this decal in YouTube videos, but it is assumed by the Asphalt Wiki that most of those other players used exploits/hacks/cheats to acquire the decal.

Asphalt 8: Airborne
  • In the Mastery Rewards screen, the decal pack previews curiously show a Maserati GranTurismo Sport wearing each decal despite the car actually having no selectable decals.
  • The Lotus Exige S Coupe has a "built-in" decal on its standard paint selection.
  • The 9FF GT9 VMAX and Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series both have decals which have been removed permanently due to controversy over their Japanese samurai themes and the use of the Rising Sun Flag of Japan, which is de facto banned in countries like South Korea due to its use in World War II, with Japan being part of the Axis powers during World War II.
  • The Honda Integra Type-R and BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage each have a decal that costs Credits 1,200,000, the most expensive decal in the game.
  • One of the decals for the ED Design Torq costs Tokens 6,000, making it the most expensive decal for any car in the game and costs more than the car itself at Tokens 4,000.
  • Since v2.3.0, almost all Chinese New Year 2015 decals can no longer be purchased and can only be instead won via Events. Strangely, only three Chinese New Year 2015 decals on the Lamborghini Veneno are still obtainable normally, even as of the Lunar New Year 2017 Update.
    • Since the Lunar New Year 2017 Update, all Chinese New Year 2016 decals introduced in the Lunar New Year Update can no longer be purchased as well.
  • Decals are hidden in the internal data, in the "decals.bin.libx" and "decals.libx" files in the "decals" folder.
  • Almost all of the new cars released through the recent updates, as well as all vehicles from the Porsche Update onwards, lack decals of any kind. This may be due to the requirement to keep updates under 2 GB in size.[1]
