Patagonia (Spanish pronunciation: [pa.ta.ˈɣo.ni̯a]) is a sparsely populated region located at the southern end of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile. Comprising the southern Andes mountains as well as the deserts, steppes, and grasslands east of the southern Andes, Patagonia has two coasts: a western one towards the Pacific Ocean, and an eastern one towards the Atlantic Ocean.

It debuted in Asphalt 8: Airborne as a race track.

Patagonia was added in the Lunar New Year 2017 Update in early 2017. It is the first track added in 2017.

Patagonia has six tracks (2 forward, 2 reverse & 2 Lunar New Year) variants:

Crystal Lake Crystal Lake Regular track.
Avalanche Alley Avalanche Alley Reverse track of Crystal Lake.
The River Fort The River Fort Regular track.
Ice Cave Ice Cave Reverse track of The River Fort.
Snowy Spring Festival 1 Snowy Spring Festival Lunar New Year theme-modified version of Crystal Lake.
Snowy Spring Festival 2 Snowy Spring Festival Lunar New Year theme-modified version of Avalanche Alley.

Patagonia features various shortcuts that zip through varying vegetation, including ice caves, snowy mountains, and grassy lands featuring animals like llamas. Condors can also be seen in the sky. There is a cave tunnel reminiscent of Sector 8's tunnel pipes, but much wider and with permanent rock columns that act as obstacles. There are falling boulders (variably with an animation) at two points along the track that are reminiscent of avalanches in the Alps.

Ice Cave is the only Patagonia track selectable in Gate Drift. A maximum of 12,900 points can be earned in one lap.

The following vehicles have their banners set in Patagonia:

Recommendations[]

  • Cars with superb handling and drifting (e.g. Apollo Intensa Emozione, McLaren M14A) are recommended here as the Avalanche Alley and Crystal Lake tracks feature a few hairpin curves similar to those in Tenerife and Iceland, as well as huge amounts of confusing paths and uneven terrain.
  • Air time is very vital in gaining a lot of speed in this track.

Trivia[]

  • Patagonia has the highest number of ramps of any track in the game.
  • Patagonia reuses Iceland's ambient background sound effects.
  • There are no variations in time of day on this track, regardless of the selected track variant.
  • Patagonia, Rio de Janeiro, Area 51, Munich Subway and Transylvania were not selectable in Quick Solo Race until the Sixth Anniversary Update.
    • The preceding three tracks lack the reverse track symbol on their reverse tracks' banners (e.g. Classified, Route 375-1, Rapido Park, Highland View, Avalanche Alley, Ice Cave).
    • As of the Sixth Anniversary Update, all of the 5 tracks mentioned are now selectable in Quick Solo Race.
  • The Renault Alpine Celebration's Research & Development event ends at The River Fort, a Patagonia track.
  • In Crystal Lake, there is a teleportation glitch that allows the player to gain faster lap times than normal. This bug is actually reused from London, whose teleportation glitch was fixed in the Lunar New Year 2017 Update.
  • Crystal Lake and Ice Cave start at an elevation so steep that cars are visibly seen rolling down during the countdown. This doesn't affect the starting position as the distance covered is very minimal.
  • There is a glitch in Ice Cave where if you wreck in a certain spot near the cave entrance you will be spawned on the bridge but the rocks that fall before the ramps don't fall.
  • In the Car Blueprints Update, Patagonia was updated to use recoloured ramps and new post-race camera work.
  • For some reason, in the pre-countdown cinematic during a multiplayer race, rain droplets appear on the camera when the cinematic repeats, even if the camera shows a snowy portion of Patagonia.
  • Patagonia has a group of llamas that can be seen on one of the fields. They can be best viewed early on in the post-race cinematic after racing Avalanche Alley.
  • At the snow mountains, the ambient background sound effects heard there are reused from the Alps and Sector 8.
  • In the pre-race cinematic for one of the Patagonia Sprint Routes, eagles from Tenerife can be heard.
  • For some reason, in Avalanche Alley, during the pre-race cinematic (starting from the "PATAGONIA" part), the ambient background sound effects disappear.
  • Like in Nevada, a green variant of a 1948 GMC 100 pickup truck can be found. This 1948 GMC 100 is in better condition than the two rusty, blue wrecked versions found in Nevada. It is parked next to a white house with a red roof that is located near one of the major jump ledges. It can be seen mid-race on the River Fort track, or during special pre-race cinematics.
  • Patagonia and Tenerife are the only mountainous tracks in the game that do not feature any decorations during the annual Christmas Seasons. The ones that do are the Alps and Iceland. By contrast, Tokyo is the only urban track that features decorations.
  • Patagonia is the eighth location in the game to undergo special modifications for a time-limited event. For TLEs between January 25-30, 2020 and February 12-22, 2021, modified versions of Crystal Lake and Avalanche Alley, called Snowy Spring Festival, had Chinese-styled buildings, lanterns, banners and a bamboo forest adorn the tracks.
  • A "Magic Llama" can be found if the player's vehicle lands safely on a wooden walkway in The River Fort. During the easter egg's debut in April 2020, the first player to find the easter egg in a time-limited event got to pick a vehicle of their choice.
  • For some reason, Avalanche Alley and Ice Cave have a wind sound effect and a chattering sound effect in the background noise at a certain part of the track (right after the first turn in Avalanche Alley's case). The chattering sound effect kind of resembles the sound Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb makes.
