Description[]
Text originally from Supercars.net
With assistance from Ford and AC Cars, the team at Shelby American modified the existing AC chassis design to accommodate the big block engine. The completed design was called the mark III chassis was manufactured with larger and wider spaced chassis rails. Shelby ordered 100 of these from AC Cars.
Due to the weight of the engine the brakes and suspension were also upgraded. The body was featured prominent wheel arches to fit wider magnesium wheels and tires. Competition features included an oil cooler, side exhausts, large fuel filler, 42-gallon fuel tank, front jacking points and a roll bar.

Performance[]
The Cobra has mediocre raw top speed, a moderately large nitro, mediocre total top speed, very good acceleration, very good handling, a very wide drifting radius (though not the worst in comparison to cars like the TVR Sagaris, mediocre nitro efficiency, and a huge Tuning Kit bonus (along with the lowest starting rank in Class B).
With a Tuning Kit, the Cobra is the second fastest car in the game at rank 1200 to rank 1300, only behind the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Special Edition. Its total top speed is 245+ mph (395+ km/h) to 255+ mph (410+ km/h) at these ranks.
Usage (Multiplayer)[]
v2.0[]
- Main article: Shelby Cobra 427/Tuning
Despite having only mediocre raw top speed and being located near the middle of Class B (as opposed to the top of Class B, Class A or Class S), the Cobra can get very fast at very low ranks because its upgrades for raw top speed don't add many ranks; this is combined with its huge Tuning Kit bonus (second in Class B to the Honda Integra Type-R, but more influential because the Integra is hindered by its extreme nitro) and very low starting rank.
The Cobra's upgrade rank distribution is 20/30/20/30 (shared with the TVR Sagaris), making the Cobra very competitive in Multiplayer at low-mid ranks from rank 1200 to rank 1300. Previously, the Cobra dominated in Multiplayer from rank 1050 all the way to rank 1500, but it has since been made more of a specialist by the Sagaris, Chevrolet 2016 Camaro SS, BMW M2, Range Rover Evoque Coupe HSE Dynamic, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, and Porsche 959, which can all defeat the Cobra outside of its current "comfort zone". Also, the SLK SE can defeat or rival all cars at all ranks from 1000 to 1800, including the Cobra, unless it makes a major mistake while driving.
The Cobra's acceleration is its biggest strength, aside from its high total top speed at low ranks. The Cobra accelerates faster than the BMW M2, Sagaris, Camaro SS, Evoque, GLC Coupe, and SLK SE. The Porsche 959, Donkervoort D8 GTO, Mazda RX-8, Mazda 6, Volkswagen Beetle Turbo, and Nissan Juke Nismo, as well as many other cars from Class D, are all able to accelerate faster than a Multiplayer tuned Cobra at rank 1200 to rank 1300 (due to all of them being close to MAX + PRO at those ranks). Therefore, the Cobra must avoid confronting these Class D cars at the beginnings of races or else risk being knocked down, but the Cobra will easily pass these cars a little further into the lap. Conversely, the Cobra can also be deadly for the BMW M2, Sagaris, Camaro SS, Evoque, GLC Coupe, and SLK SE, if it spawns behind any of these cars in a race, which would allow it to knock down these cars at the beginning of the race.
The Cobra's wide drifting radius is its biggest downfall. The Cobra cannot drift properly through a multitude of turns; most notably, the turn in Dubai (non-reversed, with ramps), which leads to a shortcut but which can be avoided, and the turn in Sector 8 (especially the reversed version), which cannot be avoided. Other difficult turns are found in Nevada, Alps, Iceland, Area 51, Tenerife, San Diego Harbor, Barcelona (reversed), Venice, some versions of The Great Wall, and Azure Coast. That leaves only the rest of The Great Wall, French Guiana (which has crawlers that are a hazard for all vehicles), Tokyo (especially the reversed version), Barcelona (non-reversed), and London (especially Westminster Bridge) as the only truly suitable maps for the Cobra.
Fortunately, the Sagaris, Camaro SS and SLK SE also all possess horrible drifting. However, the BMW M2, Evoque, GLC Coupe, and Porsche 959 are all much nimbler than the Cobra, and these difficult drifts can allow these slightly slower cars to outrun the Cobra occasionally.
The biggest difference between a novice Cobra driver and a "pro" Cobra driver is how well they can drift through these turns (there are several techniques used to travel effectively through many dangerous turns). If a Cobra driver does manage to master these turns, they can quite comfortably reach Low Champion League (2000+), or they can reach Mid Champion League (2200-2300) with difficulty.
The Cobra also has a small problem with nitro efficiency. Although its nitro efficiency is far from the worst, the Cobra is still less nitro-efficient than many of its competitors. Therefore, it's usually mandatory to use Extra Tanks with the Cobra, so playing races in large "batches" is advised, as to not waste the Extra Tanks. Even with an Extra Tank, the Cobra will still run out of nitro occasionally, such as near the end of Tokyo Reverse or on Azure Coast. Therefore, the Cobra must drift to gain nitro (or get perfect runs/knockdowns/city havocs) in order to maintain a full nitro bar. Otherwise, the players must obtain all nitro bottles possible and must flat spin or barrel roll regularly, in order to maintain nitro.
Overall, the Cobra certainly ranks as one of the top ten best Multiplayer vehicles in the game, behind the SLK SE, Aston Martin Vulcan, BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage, McLaren Mercedes MP4-25, and SIN R1, to name a few. The Cobra is approximately equal in competitiveness to the Camaro Ss at lower ranks, but it's more reliable because it has better acceleration (where the Camaro SS is commonly knocked down at the beginnings of races, the Cobra is usually the one doing the knocking down). Despite being dethroned by the SLK SE, the Cobra is still dominant due to the rarity of the SLK SE. Also, the Cobra is non-Elite (it doesn't have a durability limit) and has better acceleration than the SLK SE. The Cobra's superior acceleration can allow it to defeat the SLK SE by doing multiple strategic knockdowns throughout laps, especially in one lap races on short tracks. However, the SLK SE is around 60+ mph (100+ km/h) faster than the Cobra at the same rank, so it is still very difficult to defeat an SLK SE just by knocking it down with the Cobra. Also, if the SLK SE spawns behind the Cobra, then it will be quite difficult to perform a knockdown at the beginning of the race.
However, the Cobra's dominance in Multiplayer has been drastically reduced with the introduction of the Audi R8 e-tron Special Edition and the BMW M2 Special Edition as of the Fall Out Boy Update, given the M2 SE and e-tron SE's extremely low starting rank of A459 and B917 respectively, and near-perfect stats in all aspects. Thus, the Cobra is unable to compete with the R8 SE and M2 SE regardless of rank.
Exacerbating that is the fact that the minimum tuning required to complete the R&D of the e-tron SE is a tuning of 0500 5050 (A1111) (Where the e-tron SE runs at 450km/h), the optimal rank range of the Cobra, and as a result it is a very popular tune. As a result, regardless of the Cobra's tuning setup, it will almost always be matched with e-tron SEs.
With the revamped matchmaking as of the Fifth Anniversary Update, the Cobra now regains some usability, though it is highly advised to avoid technical tracks; the Cobra's wide drifting radius may put it at a disadvantage against cars like the Lamborghini Miura, BMW M2 and Renault Alpine Celebration. In addition, there is still a chance of coming across BMW M2 SEs.
As of Fast Lane Update, the Cobra now has much more usability in Multiplayer.
Usage (Other)[]
The Cobra is found in one Collection, "Retro", but is not featured in Career Mode (Seasons 1 to 8) and is rarely featured in Time-Limited Events.
The Cobra is featured in the special Tag Racing section of Career Mode as a Retro Car, alongside the Ferrari 308 GTS, Camaro Z/28, Datsun 280Z, BMW M1, and Ferrari 330 P4.
Price[]
The Shelby Cobra is only obtainable by accumulating 1,050.
As of the Hot Winter Season Update, upgrades require 55 of each Common Tires, Common Suspension, Common Drivetrain, and Common Exhaust, 160 Shelby Cobra 427 Kit and 4,800,000.
As of Eighth Anniversary Update, the Cobra now costs 4,050 to purchase.
Kit cards for the Cobra can be obtained by purchasing the Premium Pass for the Racing Pass 3 and can be bought with Mileage Coins. A total of 33 is needed to obtain all the kit cards.
The Cobra was obtainable by reaching Tier 50 in the Arrinera Hussarya GT Car Hunt. Players who already owned the car would get 8x Wild Card - Common instead.
Asphalt 7: Heat[]
The Shelby Cobra 427 S/C appears as a special event car in Tier 3. Added in Update 1.1.0, the last update of Asphalt 7: Heat, it is the second highest-ranked car in Tier 3, just behind the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento. The lending price, at 527,000 cash, makes it very expensive for a Tier 3 car, though the Sesto Elemento is more expensive (875,000). It is generally a mere stat upgrade for the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione or the Aston Martin V12 Vantage.
Asphalt Urban GT 2[]
Names as the Shelby Cobra 427 1967, it has the following statistics:
- HP: 410
- Max: 260 km/h / 162 mph
- 0-100: 4.60
The Shelby Cobra is categorized as a "Muscle Car" vehicle. It can compete with the Lamborghini Miura 1973 as it has good acceleration, nitro boost and handling.
